The North East Embedded team provides a varied and dynamic working environment, which is the heartbeat of operational policing. With over 1,000 pieces of intelligence received every week, we need Intelligence Assistants to help us assess the importance of this information and support our police officers out on the frontline to ensure that they have accurate information on which to investigate crime and aid decision making.
Our Intelligence Assistants research, analyse and validate large volumes of data and report their findings verbally and in writing to wide range of stakeholders. Your communication skills will be key as you will be working with people at all levels, whether colleagues, partners or other agencies, and information shared needs to be clearly understood.
As an Intelligence Assistant, it's knowing you are making a significant contribution to your community and society as a whole; the satisfaction of using your skills and working with a team to bring successful prosecutions against those causing most harm to society. Each day is rarely the same, you will support the day to day running of the department and assist the team as they develop intelligence products. There are multiple opportunities to make a positive impact on policing and reduce crime through assisting the Embedded team with various research tasks and assisting with enquiries from other departments. You will also have the opportunity to scan for threat, harm and risk and communicate your findings to colleagues.
In this role your main responsibilities will be:
- First point of contact for internal departments, other forces and partner agencies
- Makes reasoned decisions regarding information received and ensures accurate records are maintained
- Compiles force intelligence and tasking documents for decisions, dissemination, disclosure and briefings
- Undertakes research across all force/national databases and intelligence sources
- Participates in force and partner agency meetings ensuring disclosure is in accordance with legislation and policy
- Act as Intelligence Cell experts to dispatch resources to ensure rapid live time tasking to respond to intelligence opportunities
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Excellent IT skills
- Experience of decision making and problem solving
- Accurate and methodical approach to work
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to work in a team
- Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation or willing to become accredited
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

Police Barred and Advisory lists
Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
