Do you have a passion for helping people?

Are you committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all vulnerable adults, children and young people?

A Video ID procedure is where an eyewitness is shown a film consisting of images of a known suspect together with eight similar images of others who resemble that suspect. Avon and Somerset Constabulary uses the Video Identification Parade Electronic Recording (VIPER) system to produce the ID Video.

We are seeking a Volunteer who will assist the ID Officer in providing a high level of victim and witness care to those attending for ID witness viewings on police premises. We have opportunities for a Volunteer to cover Patchway and Keynsham and the surrounding area. (Volunteers are required to arrange their own travel to each location due to Covid 19 restrictions)

Main Duties

  • To meet and greet victims and witnesses attending the police premise for Video ID parades.
  • To escort victims and witnesses within police premises to the waiting area and the VIPER suite. Wait for viewings to be conducted and then escort them to the interview room.
  • To complete a witness statement pro-forma.

On rare occasions, a volunteer may be asked to attend an alternative location (such as the home address, a hospital or the workplace of a victim or witness). This would always be in the presence of a paid employee who would dynamically risk assess the situation. The volunteer has the right to decline this request, which would always be respected.

Candidates must have an excellent understanding of the importance of confidentiality and have an ability to communicate effective face to face. If you would like to learn more about this volunteering role before you apply please
