We have an opportunity for a Business Intelligence Developer to join our Performance and Insight team, working to influence evidence-based and forward looking strategy, change, planning and business decisions.

Ensuring that the organisation uses data to understand opportunities, threats, risks and demand, to make informed decisions is at the heart of what we do. Using query tools you will transform data into useful insights, creating data visualisations and interactive dashboards to service requests from across the organisation, from operational and crime datasets through to data about our people and estate.

You will play a key part in developing, maintaining and evolving the management information systems used throughout the organisation. Your work will enable the constabulary to have data insight, allowing for data driven ways of working across all levels of the organisation.  You will deliver high quality products and services that drive improvement activity achieving the critical success factors required for outstanding policing.  You will make a real difference by helping the organisation become an outstanding police force through your creativity and innovation.

In this role your main responsibilities will be:

  • Working within a team to design, development and maintain management information systems.
  • Drawing on expert technical capabilities and to develop and administer the Constabulary's key business intelligence applications.
  • Interacting with business leads and report owners to clarify, scope and deliver reporting requirements.
  • Actively engaging in improvement projects that further enhance the Constabulary's ability to deliver a quality standard of service to customers.
  • Interpreting information, highlight trends and/or inconsistencies and undertaking ad hoc data analysis to investigate any issues highlighted.
  • Drafting and presenting information reports for managers and business leads in written and verbal formats, either formally or informally, as required.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Strong knowledge of relational database structures and database query language skills.
  • Skilled computer user.
  • A full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, desirably in Information Technology /Computing/Informatics or related field.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence application administration, semantic layer design, and advanced report writing.
  • Experience with statistical reporting and historical trending.
  • Experience of working with senior managers, database developers, internal customers and external partners.

 

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
