The purpose of the role is managing the systems and storage of evidential and found property, including undertaking the day to day management of the staff and processes, providing advice and guidance to Police Officers and staff in respect of the seizure, retention, storage and disposal of property in order to provide an effective and efficient service.

In this role your main responsibilities will be:

  • Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of key legislation and policy relating to all aspects of crime related and found property which comes in the custody of the relevant team.
  • Providing a point of contact to all members of staff and the general public in relation to the seizure, retention and disposal of crime related property.
  • Managing the day to day operation of the relevant property service area including the continual review of working practices, recommending and implementing any revised procedures in line with Force Policy, in order to ensure that property is recorded, stored, and disposed of correctly.
  • Evaluating all claims relating to property handling system, providing officers with details of property they are responsible for on a regular basis and liaising with officers in regard to property returns and disposals, ensuring they are dealt with promptly and efficiently in accordance with Force Policy.
  • Managing the relevant designated resources and staff including supervising and allocating work to staff, matching resources to demand, the provision of training and development, recruitment, staff appraisal and assessment of performance and ensuring discipline, welfare and morale issues are addressed, in order to maintain a high quality service for the team.
  • Assisting in the supervision of other property teams and central evidence store as required.

Skills, Qualifications and experience required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience of prioritising workloads.
  • Experience of making recommendations / implementing changes to processes.
  • Experience of being a point of contact (internally and externally).
  • Experience of creating and maintaining records.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport
