The Road Safety Support Unit (RSSU) of Avon and Somerset Constabulary is excited to be offering an ambitious and motivated individual who is pragmatic, solution focused and able to think on their feet an opportunity to work as a Case Builder within the force.

You will be part of experienced team members of the police family where all striving toward the betterment of the Road Safety process and force wide performance.

You will be playing a pivotal role within RSSU ensuring that Case Files are prepared thoroughly and in line with the timescales.

The main purpose of this role is compiling evidence and supporting documentation in the preparation of prosecution files and enabling our officers and our partners to deal with cases promptly and effectively to improve the service victims, witnesses and suspects receive from the Road Safety process.

In this role your main responsibilities will be:

  • Build prosecution files for court through the compilation of evidence and supporting documentation in accordance with Home Office Guidance.
  • Interrogate computer systems and databases to obtain information relating to the case.
  • Liaise with the officer in the case and determine the assistance to be provided and proceed accordingly.
  • Co-ordinate with the Crown Prosecution Service and manage expectations in relation to the timescales for delivery.
  • Make enquiries with external agencies to obtain evidence and relevant documents eg birth and death certificates.
  • Order evidence for court - liaising with CSI and Forensics to obtain medical, photographic and forensic evidence pertinent to the case.
  • Contact expert witnesses to arrange for their services in the prosecution case.
  • Copy visual and audio files for cases eg CCTV, audio tapes.
  • Deal with all correspondence concerning file preparation and undertake relative administrative tasks as directed.
  • Mentor new staff.
  • Use knowledge of role and the wider Criminal Justice function to identify problems with the delivery of the case file and establish suitable solutions through proactive communication to relevant parties.

    Skills and experience required:

    • Ability to work to policy, procedures and guidance.
    • Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadline.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Computer literate and ability to research using computer systems to retrieve information.
    • Experience of communicating orally and in writing.
    • Proven ability to make informed decisions.
    • Experience of administration tasks.

    If successful you will be required to complete and pass a PNC course.

    To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

    Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

    Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
    This role has been identified as a blended role.
    The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
