Our Directorate Assistants support our senior leaders across their day to day business.

They manage, organise and plan to ensure our senior leaders have the right things at the right time.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to join us in an administrative position. You will gain lots of insight to our organisation in this post, working directly with our senior leaders you will provide an efficient and confidential service to them.

This job is busy, and at times hands on, you will be doing a wide range of tasks daily including, reviewing, and managing emails, booking in appointments, taking notes at meetings as well as writing up documents and correspondence. 

This role is fast paced, daily priorities can be changeable, so you need to be a quick thinker and find the best solution to completing deadlines or requests on our leaders in a timely and efficient manner. You will work proactively to ensure our leadership team have all the things they need at the right time. 

If you have previous experience in a personal assistant or secretarial role, then your transferable skills would be great. If you have managed people before then that is also good, but not essential.

Don’t worry if you are not familiar with a police organisation and all that we do, we will provide you training and insight to the role and the organisation once you start.

•    Legal Services

Department information

People and Organisation Development - our colleagues in this directorate are often at the centre of changes to the organisation. They are responsible for how we develop as an organisation, who we attract to come and work for us and making sure our people are looked after during their careers.

Legal Services Directorate - the team within Legal Services provide legal advice on a broad range of legal issues to the whole organisation from the Chief Constable to operational staff.

When completing your application, you will be asked to choose a preference (if you have one), there will be one single interview for successful candidates.

What do you need?

•    Excellent written and verbal communications skills
•    Previous personal assistant or secretarial experience is preferred but not essential 
•    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
•    Experience of arranging and preparing meetings
•    Ideally have experience of managing a small team

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
