Cybercrime is an area of criminality that continues to grow, with an increase of individuals and businesses, both large and small, falling victim across the country. Could you support us as we strive to help our communities feel safe and be safe online, and with our vision to deliver outstanding policing for everyone?

As a Cyber Protect Officer, you will find yourself being drawn towards cutting-edge technology, and you’ll be technically competent with a good knowledge of networks, ransomware and online safety. You’ll have a good understanding of cyber attacks and cyber security, and you’ll have an interest in the ways criminals change their attack methods, striving to be ahead of the curve. You will have a desire to help people, especially those most vulnerable in our communities; from our most junior to our most senior.

Working within the Protect, Prepare and Prevent strands of the Government’s 4P plan, you’ll use your knowledge and understanding of cybercrime, together with strong interpersonal skills, to join a team that has a significant part to play in reducing the overall impact of cybercrime across the Avon and Somerset area, and the wider region. You’ll do this by raising awareness, sharing information and promoting crime prevention measures that allow individuals and businesses to protect themselves.

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:

•    Promoting a wide range of prevention and preparation material designed to educate and raise awareness about the threat of cybercrime
•    Utilising mainstream press and social media platforms to deliver messages around cybercrime and the work of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, ensuring our messaging is regularly updated around cyber threats
•    Representing Avon and Somerset Constabulary at meetings, seminars, conferences and other forums, delivering briefings and/or presentations, as and when required, to partners, members of the public and industry
•    Collaborating with partner agencies, commercial partners and professional contacts to increase knowledge and intelligence around cybercrime
•    Sharing emerging threats and trends with the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Information Sharing Platform (CiSP) and wider community

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of presenting to an audience
•    The ability to convey technical matters to a non-technical audience.
•    Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritising own workload, taking ownership of problems and responding in a dynamic way
•    Knowledge of the threats posed by cybercrime and the ways to reduce the risk of these threats
•    Experience of computer literacy working with a variety of applications across a variety of platforms
•    A full current driving licence, or the ability to travel around the Avon and Somerset area using alternative transport.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
