Avon and Somerset Constabulary Intelligence department has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for Intelligence Assistants to join the department, you will be responsible for collating, evaluating and sharing intelligence information to support policing priorities. 

You will play a key role in ensuring that operational staff and officers are provided with the intelligence they need to protect vulnerable people and investigate crime, whilst protecting confidential sources and sensitive policing tactics.

We're looking for people with strong verbal reasoning and decision making skills.  Successful candidates will be computer literate and have excellent attention to detail.  All members of the Intelligence department are subject to additional security checks and members of the department must display the highest standards of honesty and integrity. 

Successful candidates may be placed on a bank for up to 12 months awaiting appointment.

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Provides an initial point of contact service either by telephone or in person for internal service users of intelligence and partners, ensuring information sharing is in accordance with legislation and policy.
  • Provides and manages the co-ordinated collection, receipt, evaluation, input, update and sharing of information in various formats from within the force, other police forces and external agencies.
  • Ensures relevant information is input, processed or updated onto the force computer systems in and efficient and timely manner.
  • Having evaluated incoming information makes reasoned decisions regarding the initial internal and external dissemination in the most appropriate format ensuring accurate records are kept and updated.
  • Complies force intelligence and tasking documents for decisions, dissemination, disclosure and briefings.
  • Undertakes research across all force/national databases and other information and intelligence sources as directed by supervisors, reporting findings either verbally or in writing.
  • Attends and contributes at appropriate force and partner agency meetings ensuring disclosure is in accordance with legislation and policy.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including the ability to use and update a wide range of computer systems.
  • Experience of decision making with the ability to problem solve.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team working.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

Intelligence Assistants within the Intelligence Processing team are blended workers, working within the hours of 0800 – 1800hrs. Their role is to review and assess new intelligence and allocate to appropriate teams for further investigation, as well as ensure that local and national systems are updated with information from partner agencies.

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
