Technical Support Assistant - Applications Delivery

Avon and Somerset Constabulary relies on technology to provide information to deliver policing to our local communities. The Information Technology Directorate comprises IT professionals who are dedicated to IT provision that directly supports policing.

The Applications delivery area comprises people-focussed, technical specialists whose passion is maintaining robust, highly available business systems which allow policing information to be available when and where required.

We have a temporary role available for a duration of one year for a Technical Support Assistant to work within our Applications team providing technical support for a variety of critical business systems including NicheRMS (the core records management system which covers Intel, Investigation, Crime Management, Custody and Case Preparation records). 

In this role your Main Responsibilities will be:-

• Working within a designated team and across virtual teams as necessary
• Providing a service that will include the administration, maintenance, development, installation, configuration and support of all devices, infrastructure and applications for the IT Directorate. The delivered services will operate to agreed performance standards, governance and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practices.
• Providing technical knowledge to a range of technical support and development services. This will include, but is not limited to, the following:-
  • Service monitoring, pro-active prevention and associated maintenance.
  • Fault diagnosis and resolution.
  • Undertakes various technical activities and asset management
  • Liaison with third-party suppliers, agencies, departments and other parties
  • Provision of technical advice and guidance and testing
  • Understands and complies with use of all standard procedures and ITIL processes
  • Create documentation and deliver training packages
• To technically support the organisation and support the IT Directorate services and products to meet the needs of the force
• To work and recommend on an agreed range of performance outcomes, to pro-actively recommend service improvement measures. To undertake developmental or remedial actions as directed in response to review or business feedback
• Delivering tasks within technical projects, assisting in the development and implementation of solutions. Uses a combination of technical knowledge and interpersonal skills, including consultation skills
• Supporting the strategy of the IT Directorate contributing to the overall strategy and vison of the organisation

 Skills, Experience and Qualifications required:-

• Experience in relevant technologies
• Experience of customer service skills especially a pro-active approach to solving problems
• Experience of developing good relationships within a team, colleagues and across the wider organisation
• Good verbal and written communication skills, preparing reports, statistical information and data returns
• Good time management skills with an ability to complete tasks within timescales
