If you’re looking for a position which will offer you variety and a genuine opportunity to broaden your experience, Avon and Somerset is the constabulary for you.

Location

Current Constabulary policy requires officers to live in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary boundary and within a 20 mile radius of their station of posting. However, we would strongly recommend that you do not enter into any lease or purchase of property until a posting is confirmed.  Although the main advert suggests that the location is Portishead, Police Headquarters this is subject to change and postings will be based on operational need meaning there is flexibility around posting location.

Postings are decided on the basis of our Constabularies need for personnel at particular locations. Individual preferences will be noted and attempts made to accommodate, depending on the Constabularies need at the time.

Rent/housing allowance

For those officers who currently receive a housing or rent allowance in their existing Constabulary, our Constabulary equivalent allowance to our maximum will be paid.

Salary and leave

Officers in this constabulary are paid in accordance with the national rates. Salaries are paid directly into officer's bank or building society account on the 28th of each month.

Leave already booked by a successful officer will be honoured for this year, but officers must advise us of these dates in writing when invited to attend the interview.

If an officer has agreed carry over of leave with their current Constabulary for the previous year, we will honour the carry-over of up to 5 days into the current period.

Under most circumstances pension rights are directly transferable from one Constabulary to another.

Fitness test & Interview

If successful at interview all applicants will be required to attend a Medical Assessment, Uniform Fitting, Biometrics, Drugs and a Physical Fitness test.  These will be completed at Police Headquarters in Portishead and cannot be transferred from your current force.

The fitness test will consist of the following elements:

Warm up to level 3 on endurance fitness shuttle run (bleep test) followed by two minutes of stretching.

Endurance fitness shuttle run (bleep test) up to the level required for your role.
