We are looking for a skilled Handy Person to undertake routine maintenance of police buildings and vehicles.

You will be responsible for the upkeep of police premises.  This will include minor redecoration, as well as the collection and delivery of supplies and health and safety responsibilities, such as testing of emergency generators and fire alarms. As a member of the Business Team you will contribute in ensuring that all Officers and Staff have everything they require to fulfil their day-to-day duties.

You will be responsible for ensuring the security of the premises through the escorting of contractors and other visitors. You will also support the admin team by ensuring computer systems are kept updated and through the management of the Handy person mailbox.  

The role of HandyPerson is valued across the whole unit as a key member of the team as you would be supporting the running of the building and fleet, ensuring security requirements are met at all times.

Your Main Responsibilities will include:-

    • Being the point of contact for contractors, including arranging for contractors/non police employees to be escorted whilst at the SW ROCU premises.
    • Being responsible for the cleanliness (both internal and external) and minor maintenance of police vehicles including routine checks of fuel, oil, water and tyres. 
    • Managing and maintaining accurate records of servicing and mileage for Transport Services and arranging and assisting in delivery and collection of vehicles, which involves an element of driving between the workshop and other sites within the constabulary.
    • Responsibility for the upkeep of grounds of police premises, including grass cutting and basic gardening; and general tidiness and cleanliness (including clearance of snow). 
    • Assisting and complying with Health & Safety regulations, by testing emergency generators, lights and fire alarms in line with force procedures.

     Skills and Experience Required:-

    • Good knowledge of basic building and vehicle maintenance duties.
    • Experience of general DIY tasks to include basic carpentry, painting and decorating and minor plumbing.
    • Must be computer literate and have knowledge/experience of using Microsoft computer packages such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
    • A full current driving licence and be prepared to become an authorised driver of force vehicles.
    • You must be 21 years of age in order to drive the relevant vehicle.

    This role is 30 hours per week.
