The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) and Avon and Somerset Police are looking for individuals keen to progress their careers as Criminal Intelligence Analysts. We are recruiting for multiple positions across various teams, all permanent positions.

Intelligence Analysts are integral to the intelligence cycle and have a significant impact on understanding and disrupting the most serious and organised crime. Whilst your work can be varied depending on which team and unit you are in, the main responsibilities of an Intelligence Analyst include identifying, planning and conducting the collection and analysis of information and intelligence, including recorded crime data, digital data and open source information. You will need to be happy to quickly understand, interpret and process large amounts of information from a wide range of sources.

There will be opportunities for development and progression throughout your career as an Intelligence Analyst. You will be supporting interesting and varied work, with the ability once established to move laterally across other units when vacancies arise. You will also be expected to achieve IPP Certification (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) which involves developing Intelligence Analysis techniques whilst in post, a nationally recognised certificate of competency across all Police Forces & ROCUs. On completion of this, all analysts then have the option to progress from the Criminal Intelligence Analyst to the Higher Intelligence Analyst role profile through completion of a further development portfolio, attracting a higher pay scale of PO2-5.

We currently have vacancies within the following teams:

SWROCU – Operations Intelligence Team – 2 x permanent

As an analyst on the Operations Team, you will be involved in the South West ROCU’s most significant investigations into Serious and Organised Crime across the region through dynamic intelligence support, and supporting investigations through producing analytical products for the court process. Vacancies on this team are fixed location, with the flexibility to be based at either the Northern or Southern Hubs for the SWROCU.

Avon and Somerset – 3 x Fixed Term Contract

The role of an Intelligence Analyst within the Intelligence and Tasking Department is based across a number of police stations force wide. The role is largely office-based, and the core hours are Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600.  The role also requires Intelligence Analysts to be rostered for on-call duties for several periods throughout the year covering Monday to Friday 1900-0700 hours and Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) 0700-1900 hours and 1900-0700 hours.  Some roles within the department will require some flexibility around working times for operational reasons.

A&S currently have the following 3 vacancies:

1 x Local Intelligence Team @ Concorde House

2 x Overt High Harm Team @ Kenneth Steele House

Salary:

A&S - SO2 (£36,996 - £39,036), progression to PO2-5 (£39,036 - £41,928).

Essential skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
  • The post holder will be required to achieve and maintain IPP Certification
  • Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force / region area using alternative transport
  • Experience of intelligence analysis processes and/or intelligence led approaches
  • Experience working in an advisory/consultancy capacity - able to demonstrate professional credibility with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent IT skills including extensive experience using all common Microsoft packages including Excel and specific analytical software programmes
  • Experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis including statistical analysis
  • Experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
  • Ability to act on own initiative, to own and manage issues with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable ability to make clear, timely and justifiable decisions based on an informed rationale.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication, presentation skills to communicate findings and appropriately influence decision makers

Blended Working / Hybrid Working:

SWROCU & Avon and Somerset encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
Whilst the roles are office based, the successful candidate for this role may have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.

Vetting and safeguarding

This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level. Dependent on which capability this role sits within, there may be a requirement for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance to be obtained within the first 12 months.
