The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for a Regional Fraud Protect Officer keen to progress their careers as part of our Regional Economic Crime Unit (RECU).

You will be part of a team, reducing the overall impact from Fraud through raising awareness, information sharing and promoting preventative measures that allow individuals and businesses to protect themselves.

This new role is part of a national network coordinated by the City of London Police but delivering safeguarding services at a local level to communities in the South West.  The successful applicant will bring an abundance of enthusiasm and positive energy to the role, working in a small team to provide vital and lasting protection services to those most vulnerable to fraud. 

Please note that the attached role profile is for Avon and Somerset Constabulary, however it covers the job description required for this role. The role profile for SWROCU is currently under review.

We are recruiting to a fixed term contract which will run until 31/03/2026.

SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.

We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.

Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.

We work with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Blended Working

SWROCU encourage flexible working where operationally possible. This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.  

Essential skills & experience required

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Have the ability to convey technical matters to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ability to form working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload, taking ownership of problems and responding in a dynamic.
  • Must be self-motivated and have proven previous experience of developing knowledge and understanding through own research and other sources.
  • Some knowledge of fraud and the different ways that fraud is committed.
  • Computer literate and have proven experience of working with a number of applications.
  • Confident and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence or equivalent.

    Vetting and safeguarding
