An opportunity has become available within our Transport Services Department for a Motor Vehicle Technician. You will maintain and repair all fleet vehicles, including the latest vehicles with integrated emergency equipment fitted. You will work within a small and supportive team at our main workshop based at Avonmouth.

We strive ourselves to achieve very high standards and a first-time fix to ensure that vehicles are safe and kept on the road for the maximum time possible.  

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Apply technical knowledge and skills to effectively service/repair all types of customers’ vehicles, plant and equipment.
  • Working to the highest of standards to ensure officer safety whilst vehicles are driven and tested to extremes.
  • Accurately record all labour and components on the job card and touchscreens and correctly label all parts.
  • Diagnose and resolve installations as well as diagnosing/repairing Police equipment, high speed road testing with officers may be required.
  • Keep updated of upcoming technical developments around vehicle maintenance and the introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Liaise with customers and ensure that complex technical information is provided in a way that the user understands.

Skills, experience and qualifications:

  • You must hold a City and Guilds Advanced Technical Certificate in the Automotive Industry (Level 3) or NVQ Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Level 3) or BTEC in Motor Vehicle Engineering (Level 3) or equivalent.
  • You will need to have good up-to-date knowledge of vehicles including electric vehicles and plant to be able to provide maintenance and repairs to a very high standard alongside very good diagnostic skills. 
  • You will need to hold or be willing to work towards an MOT testers licence, an Electric Vehicle certification, C1 and D1 Categories.  If you do not currently hold these qualifications then fully funded training will be provided.
  • A good understanding of automotive electrics is required for this role but full training will be provided.

Additional information:

The working hours will be split across a two week shift pattern:

  • Week 1 – Monday to Thursday working 07.00-15.00 and Friday 07.00-14.30
  • Week 2 – Monday to Thursday working 11.00-19.00 and Friday 11.30-19.00
