The role of Senior Technical Support sits within our Applications Delivery team. This specialist team consists of technical staff who are dedicated to delivering an IT provision that directly supports our policing service by maintaining robust and highly available systems.

In this role, you will be providing technical support for a variety of business systems and will require both an eye for detail plus an understanding of the strategic view of complex business systems.

This role is blended working but with the opportunity to meet up with the wider team/s a couple times per week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing comprehensive support to a range of services, including:-
    • Provision, development and solutioning
    • Installation and configuration
    • Service monitoring, assessment management, pro-active prevention
    • Fault diagnosis and resolution
    • Upgrade and patching
  • Working within project teams, consulting and providing recommendations in the development and implementation of solutions
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to encourage joint working and enhance service delivery
  • Ensuring that the application/service operates to professional standards of quality and performance in terms of stability, availability and security.

Skills & experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience of working within an IT department/organisation
  • Strong computer literacy and understanding of technologies to a level deeper than simply the end-user experience
  • Experience in relevant technologies (including Cloud Technologies, Windows Servers, end-user devices, Windows system administrative tools and complex line-of-business applications)
  • Excellent communication skills with experience of collaborating across multiple people/teams and developing good working relationships
  • Pro-active approach to problem solving
  • Methodical approach to the organisation of workloads

The role-holder will know how to develop good relationships with their team and key stakeholders across the organisation. You will need to be customer focused and passionate about providing a first class service to all parts of the organisation, understanding best practice so that you can provide professional and technical expertise.

There will be occasions when you are required to travel around the force area therefore the successful person will need to hold a full UK driving licence.  

Please note that following a successful probation period, this post has a potential on call requirement for which appropriate allowances will be paid.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
