This role is currently eligible for a market supplement in addition to the basic salary to reflect determined market conditions. Eligibility for and value of Market factors are reviewed on an annual basis and are not contractual. It can be confirmed, therefore, that a market supplement at the rate of £4,600 (£pro rata) per annum will be payable.

Network Engineer - £42,607 - £45,550 (Hybrid)

About the position:

Technical analysis, design, development, installation, configuration, tuning and support of all devices, infrastructure and applications. The role will encompass all elements of the lifecycle, this will involve the analysis, design and creation of solutions, working within or acting as the technical lead for projects as well as inputting into architecture and strategy functions and the design and development of technical standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain the company's network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse and optimise network performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Implement security measures to protect the organisation's data and systems.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.

Skills & experience required:

  • Able to demonstrate clear understanding of WAN/LAN, knowledge of Juniper SRX Service Gateways, MPLS/VPLS technologies inc. EFM and ADSL
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or other networking equipment.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of Routing Protocols (TCP/UIP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP)
  • Solid knowledge of security best practices and firewall configurations.
  • Understanding of contract processes and procedures with good analytical and numerical skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Additional information:

  • Please note, the base salary for this role is £38,007 - £40,950 plus a market allowance of £4,600 subject to annual review.
  • Due to the on-call status, you will need to hold a full UK driving licence. You will be required to upload copies of your licence during the application process.
  • To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
