The roles:
Both roles will sit within the HR Operations team. You will contribute to the achievement of business objectives through the provision of dedicated people actions, support, and advice. You will provide support and advice to managers on the issues including business change, selection and retention of staff; contracts of employment, including various types of short-term contracts; terms and conditions of employment, remuneration and rewards; job evaluation; performance management including disciplinary issues, grievances, sickness absence management and appraisal; exit policies and procedures. This is balanced with the opportunity to shape processes, policies and systems that enable all of our people to reach their full potential, in order that we deliver outstanding policing services for those living within the Avon and Somerset area.
You will work in partnership with HR colleagues, line managers, employees and senior leaders; acting as a subject matter expert to enable the right outcomes in a timely and effective way.
This role is ‘blended’ meaning that the majority of your working time will be spent working from home with the expectation of travel across Avon and Somerset when required.
Main responsibilities:
- Providing advice, guidance and support to managers on the effective management of key employee issues such as inclusion and diversity, business change, resourcing and development of staff within our organisation.
- Ensuring that the service provided champions our organisational values of Caring, Inclusive, Learning and Courageous.
- Leading and supporting projects; acting as a subject matter expert in relation to our service delivery and best HR practice
- Develop policies and systems to support innovation in our organisation, including research, engagement with colleagues and analysis of findings
- Taking an active part in HR processes including attendance, capability and disciplinary meetings and hearings as appropriate, advising management on the fairness of the action taken and making decisions in relation to disciplinary outcomes.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Proven experience of advising on casework, implementation of new and amended policies and procedures, and analysing and utilising management information
- CIPD Level 5 qualified or up to date knowledge of employment law and recognised HR practice in a complex operating environment.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills; able to influence others and adapt to different settings
- Ability to work with a high degree of interruptions and demands for advice, cope with competing deadlines and deal positively with change
- Ability to work independently and under own initiative to deliver projects and review processes and policies; taking responsibility for delivering results and identifying opportunities for innovation
Additional information:
Currently we have one parental leave cover (9 months, with a possible review for extension).

This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
