An opportunity has become available to become a Collision Investigation Unit Supervisor, managing a small team of specialists you will take responsibility for effective investigation into fatal road collisions.

You will be responsible for supervising all the investigations carried out by the team, supporting and advising Senior Investigating Officers (SIO) in the gathering and interpretation of evidence and information to establish the causes of collisions, and provide expert evidence as required at court.

You may be highly experienced detective or investigator looking for your next challenge, however it is not essential to have experience in this field.

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Supervise, direct and develop the Collision Investigation Unit, taking responsibility for effective investigation of fatal road collisions and other specific types of serious road collision or road traffic investigation.
  • To take responsibility for allocating duties and supervise the workload of the unit in order to provide an effective level of service for the force, making the best use of team members strengths and ensuring that the investigations are appropriately managed.
  • Supervise file preparation for cases destined for the Crown and higher courts.
  • Maintain effective and productive relationships with the Coroner's Court.

Skills and experience required:

  • You will be highly motivated and have a flexible approach and may need to work out of hours on occasion.
  • It is desirable that you have experience as an investigator in serious or major crime fields.
  • You will hold or be willing to work towards the Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP 2)
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Ability to use own initiative and have good problem solving skills.
  • You are required to hold a full driving licence to carry out this role.

Additional Information:

Whilst this role is a hybrid role, the expectation is that you will work largely within the office. Working arrangements will be agreed with the successful candidate
