Job Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team as Health and Safety Manager. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of our employees, fostering a culture of safety, and implementing best practices to minimise workplace incidents. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programmes in compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. 
  • Follow a systematic and comprehensive approach to prepare, implement, and manage strategic plans to ensure the provision of effective support services. 
  • Provide leadership and guidance, fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability to managers and staff on all aspects of the organisation’s activities. 
  • Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety measures into daily operations. 
  • Develop, implement and monitor a strategy for waste management generally and specialist waste in particular.  
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in safety practices. 

Qualifications: 

  • Hold corporate membership to the institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or be working towards or be prepared to gain membership . 
  • Have thorough knowledge of the UK and European Health and Safety legislation. 
  • Hold a relevant NEBOSH or NVQ Qualification  
  • Previous experience in a safety management role or proven management responsibilities 
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire a safety-oriented culture. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and mitigate potential risks.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant software. 

The successful candidate should ideally hold a full UK driving licence

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
