Do you have excellent communication skills and willing to provide a dedicated and comprehensive mentoring, advice and guidance to others?

This exciting new role will be initially dedicated to supporting the development of new investigators and other staff as they apply their skills investigating a wide range of incidents.  Longer term this role may develop further to encompass the continuous investigative development across the whole constabulary.

This hugely rewarding role will allow you to utilise your expertise and experience to develop and mentor others in various investigations, prioritising actions and manage caseloads.  In this role you will play a key part in developing investigators into becoming professional, caring and effective whilst helping to resolve crimes and deliver high standards of public service.

In this role your main responsibilities will be:

  • Liaising with relevant stakeholders, providing advice and guidance on complex and serious crime investigations to newly accredited detectives and other new members of staff, providing feedback in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Providing advice on suspect interviews and solicitor disclosure.
  • Providing advice on the preparation and compilation of prosecution/case or other evidential files, including redaction, eg. Crown Prosecution Service, Coroner or other relevant authority.
  • Provide guidance on writing disclosure schedules, rebuttable presumptive material and Investigative Management Documents.
  • Deliver bespoke group mentoring/one-to-one upskilling where required.
  • Assist operational IPDU leads in the preparation, management and facilitation of action plans set for detectives and investigators under assessment

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Proven experience of investigating serious and complex crime and of working in an investigative environment, with a current or previous PIP2 qualification.
  • Strong contemporary understanding of the role of an operational investigative PC, detective and/or Police Investigator.
  • Experience of gathering and collating information, along with composing reports.
  • Experience of interviewing and taking statements.
  • Excellent communication skills on a one-to-one and a group basis.

Currently we have two fixed term 18 month contracts available, working from the below locations:

  • South district working from Yeovil Police Station, Horsey Lane, Yeovil or Bridgwater Police Centre, Express Park, Bristol Road, Bridgwater.
  • North district working from Concorde House, Harlequin Office Park, Fieldfare, Emmerson's Green, Bristol or Kenneth Steele House, Feeder Road, Bristol.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th February 2023.
