The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Avon and Somerset is looking to recruit a Policy and Commissioning Support Officer until the end of March 2025 to work with us on the breadth of work undertaken by the Policy, Partnerships and Commissioning Directorate of the OPCC. The role is based in Portishead, near Bristol, with hybrid working.

Reporting to a Senior Policy and Commissioning Manager, you will be a key member of staff within the Directorate, working across our portfolios to deliver the PCC's Police and Crime Plan. Whilst the main focus will be supporting the team's commissioning of services to support victims of crime and anti-social behaviour, you will also have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues on services and priorities as diverse as Reducing Reoffending, scrutiny of the Criminal Justice system, our work with the voluntary sector and other emerging priorities for the team.

The core responsibilities of this interesting and varied role are:

  1. Organise meetings and events with both internal staff and partners.
  2. Prepare appropriate paperwork for meetings, take notes/minutes and maintain effective records of decisions made and actions required.
  3. Provide coordination support for the Policy, Partnerships and Commissioning Team including development and regular updating of project plan(s) as required.
  4. Undertake research to facilitate the work of the Policy, Partnerships and Commissioning Team.
  5. Prepare briefing notes and reports on behalf of the Policy, Partnerships and Commissioning Team for the Senior Leadership Team, PCC and partners.
  6. Support the analysis and scrutiny of performance information from service providers, including the Constabulary where appropriate.

With relevant experience and with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, you will be the sort of person who works well to deadlines, and calmly takes challenges one step at a time to deliver solutions.

You will have a keen interest in understanding and addressing the needs of vulnerable people who come into contact with the police and the criminal justice system and working with a range of stakeholders to meet those needs, including the voluntary sector.
