Do you have the unique set of skills we are looking for?


Our firearms department is a specialist area within our organisation that covers firearms response across Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset and Wiltshire police forces (Tri Force).

The teams are a rapid response department who are on call 24/7 to provide assistance wherever and whenever it is needed.


We are now looking for an experienced individual to join us to help train and develop our officers as a Firearms Trainer.


In this role you will organise and lead on the planning and delivery of firearms training in line with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum.

We will need you to be responsible for the assessment and development of our Authorised Firearms Officers, providing guidance and continued professional development advice and support.

You will need to deliver training across all of our Tri-force area and therefore will be out and about at all other forces on a regular basis.

What we need from you

We need you to be a current Authorised Firearms Officer and hold a National Police Firearms Training Certificate, hold a teaching or training qualification to NVQ Level 3 in Training and Development or equivalent (PTTLLS – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Centre) and hold or be willing to achieve CTTLLS– Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector within 12 months.

Your ability to communicate clearly and effectively on both an individual and group basis is key here, you need to be a self-confident, motivated individual who can manage your own workload and provide the plan and guidance needed for others.

You must also meet the following requirements for this role, Annual hearing and eye sight test in line with National standards, 6 monthly re-qualification shoot – 90% pass mark to meet the standards set out by the College of Policing and Annual Fitness test to the agreed National levels.
