SW ROCU is part of the national ROCU network who work hand in hand with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC).

This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking and child sexual abuse and exploitation. SW ROCU seeks to lead and support the region working with the forces and national leads to promote consistency and use of best practice and technology.

We are now looking for individuals who are keen to progress their careers as part of our Regional Cyber Crime Unit as a Protect, Prevent, Prepare Officer.

You will be part of a team who makes a positive impact on the future prospects of those people with cyber skills who are at risk of criminality.  You will part of a team who reduces the likelihood of organisations suffering a cyber-attack, and help them better recover if they do. You will part of a team who works as part of a wider UK team to help make the UK the safest place to live and do business online.

In this role your Main Responsibilities will be:-

  • Promoting a wide range of prevention material that is designed to educate and raise awareness about the threat from cyber crime.
  • Engaging with press and social media to deliver messages and engagement around cyber crime and the work of the RCCU, and ensure the SWROCU website has updated information regarding current cyber threats.
  • Representing the RCCU and SWROCU at meetings, seminars, conferences and other forums, delivering briefings and/or presentations as and when required to partners, public and industry.
  • Attending debriefs of operational activity and identify lessons learned together with best practice and then ensuring this is disseminated to minimise the risk of harm and thus ensure that future criminal opportunities are reduced.
  • Be the single point of contact for the Southwest Regional Cyber Information Sharing Platform (CiSP) and to share emerging threats and trends to the CiSP community.
  • Providing administrative and ongoing support to deliver appropriate cybercrime awareness events.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications required:-

  • You must be computer literate
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Experience of conveying technical matters to a non-technical audience
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and prioritisation of workload
  • Knowledge of the threats posed by cybercrime
  • Previous experience of working in a Cyber security environment or the holding of a relevant qualification would be advantageous  
  • Experience of working in partnership with private industry and of media engagement and message delivery would be desirable

  • A&S – Scale 6
  • D&C – Grade 7

This post is a subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.  To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
