We have an opportunity for a Regional Compliance Officer to join our team within Legal and Compliance Services.

This is a permanent, full time role with a current annual salary of £34,326 per annum increasing by yearly increments to £37,134 per annum.

You will responsible for and ensuring that the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and other regional collaborations as required meets its statutory obligations in relation to the retention, deletion and disclosure of information in line with relevant legislation, local and national policies.

We are a team which favours a strong skillset and enthusiasm over experience so we are willing to provide you with training and any appropriate support to enable you to expand your existing knowledge, skills and experience if required.

In this role your Main Responsibilities will be:- 

  • Interpreting relevant legislation, ensuring compliance and making assessments on information as necessary, where circumstances require seek external professional and/or legal advice
  • Promoting the requirements of Data Protection legislation within the Unit
  • Producing Information Sharing Agreements and Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIA) on behalf of the SW ROCU, working with Force colleagues (across the region), partner agencies and other relevant third parties
  • Providing support and training to internal and external stakeholders in relation to Information Compliance and Freedom of Information (FOI) matters
  • To draft and promote policies and procedures in relation to relevant legislation, legal decisions, national best practice and tribunal judgements 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications required:- 

  • A relevant professional qualification eg BCS in Data Protection or Freedom Of Information
  • A thorough working knowledge of either the Data Protection Act 2018/UK GDPR, Human Rights Act 1998 the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the 2013 Protocol, Home Office 2017 Review of Use and Retention of Custody Images and Management of Police Information
  • Ability to provide professional advice, guidance and presentations to varying audiences
  • Experience of developing and implementing new processes
  • Experience of providing Management Information
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage fluctuating demands in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience of composing professional written responses to queries and requests
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships both with internal and external partners/stakeholders

    Blended Working/ Hybrid Working

    Avon and Somerset Police encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
    This role has been identified as a blended role.
    The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
