Avon and Somerset Volunteer Police Cadet Leaders

Do you enjoy working with young people?

  • Do you have good communication skills?
  • Are you available to regularly support our weekly term time meetings and sometimes support holiday or weekend events?
  • Are you aged 18 or over?

We need adult volunteer Leaders to support our programme of educational, informative and fun activities for Police Cadets aged 13-17.  You would be helping them to learn about policing, make a difference in their communities and gain new skills and qualifications.

You don’t need knowledge of policing.  We will provide training and resources and our units are supported by their local policing teams.

What would you be doing?

This is a varied and exciting volunteer role that includes:

  • Attending weekly sessions regularly to provide adult supervision.
  • Helping to keep records up to date
  • Delivering fun and interactive sessions at weekly meetings using materials that we provide
  • Supporting cadets when they attend community events, visits to specialist police teams and when they support policing activities
  • Being a positive adult role model for young people
  • Creating a safe and inclusive environment where all cadets are welcomed and able to share any concerns
  • Supporting the Unit Leader with planning and preparation for weekly sessions and other activities

You will receive:

  • Full uniform including everything you need for outdoor activities in all weathers
  • Training and support to develop your skills, including the opportunity to obtain accredited qualifications
  • A unique insight into modern policing practice
  • The opportunity to build positive relationships with cadets and colleagues and make a real difference to young people and your local community

Avon and Somerset Police are committed to safeguarding and operate safer recruitment processes. This helps to ensure a police service that we can all be proud to be a part of because everyone feels safe, valued and part of a happy and supportive work environment. All employees and volunteers will be subject to background checks, including vetting and references.  This role involves responsibility for young people that will require completion of an enhanced DBS and checking of the list of those barred from working with children.

We have vacancies in Bristol/South Glos/B&NES/North Somerset/Somerset

Important notes about completing your application:

This role requires that at least one of your references is able to comment on your interactions with children and/or young people in a personal, voluntary or employment capacity.  Please ensure that you consider this when completing your application.

Our electronic system asks you to provide 3 years of employment history, please disregard this.  As part of our Safer Recruitment procedures you must provide details of ALL employment/education/voluntary roles you have ever held and details about any gaps when you were not working/studying.  The system will allow you to add as many roles as you need to.

Don’t assume that we know anything about you!  There is plenty of space so tell us about your knowledge, skills and experience from all areas of your life that relate to being a Volunteer Police Cadet Leader.
