Our in-house Recruitment Team plays a vital role in ensuring Avon and Somerset Police continues to deliver an outstanding service to the public. We support hiring managers across the organisation, attract talented candidates and guide them through every stage of the recruitment process.
We are now offering an exciting apprenticeship opportunity, suitable for those looking to complete a Level 3 Apprenticeship. The role is ideal for anyone seeking their first step into Recruitment, HR, or Business Support.
You will be fully supported by a friendly, experienced team and have dedicated time to complete your apprenticeship training, all while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
The role
As an Apprentice Talent Assistant, you will play an important role in helping us attract, engage and onboard new colleagues across a wide range of policing and staff roles. You will:
- Support candidates throughout their recruitment journey, responding to queries and providing excellent customer service
- Help to manage high volumes of applications, ensuring all documentation and checks are completed accurately
- Learn to use our recruitment systems and processes, with full training provided
- Assist at recruitment events such as job fairs, open days, information sessions and assessment centres
- Work closely with hiring managers and colleagues to support their recruitment needs
- Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Recruitment Team
You will develop knowledge of recruitment best practice, including equality, diversity and inclusion, data handling, and relevant employment legislation, as part of your apprenticeship training.
Some events may occasionally take place in the evenings or at weekends, so a flexible approach to working hours is required.

Our team is based at the beautiful Police and Fire Headquarters in Portishead, which offers:

We work very flexibly, and you will be able to work from home but will also be required to work in the office. Office days will be arranged in advance to support activities and events.
Skills and experience required:
You don’t need previous HR or Recruitment experience—just the right attitude and a willingness to learn. We are looking for someone who is:
- A confident and friendly communicator
- Passionate about delivering excellent customer service
- Able to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Motivated and organised
- A great team player
Experience in a customer-facing role is helpful but not essential.
You will need either a full driving licence or the ability to travel independently across the force area when required.

Additional information
The successful applicant will commence on a scale 2 salary which equates to £24,747 per annum.
This is a blended working role, therefore you will have the opportunity to work from home and also at Police Headquarters, Portishead. This role works office hours, and to support events and recruitment activity there is the requirement to work outside of office hours including evenings and weekends on a regular basis, across the force area. Flexibility in start and finish times would be required.
We are anticipating this apprenticeship will commence from July 2026, however this is dependent on your recruitment checks.
If your application is successful, you will be invited to a virtual information session to help you prepare for the interview and outline the next steps. This session will take place on Tuesday 31st March at 18:00.
Interviews will be held at Portishead Headquarters on Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Saturday 25th April.
