An opportunity has arisen for substantive police constables to transfer to Avon & Somerset and join the Tactical Support Team (TST) at both the Northern (Almondsbury) and Southern (Express Park) hubs.
We are looking for qualified Roads Policing officers who hold the advanced driving ticket who can support the department in providing specialist Roads Policing, within the Tactical Support Team (TST).
We anticipate that there will be a number of vacancies which we will look to fill from a pool of officers over the next 12 months.
The successful officers will be line managed by the TST Team Sergeants and Inspectors.
The Role
The Tactical Support Team provide Specialist Roads Policing to the Force on a 24/7 basis. You will be part of a small team of specialist officers, deploying across the whole Force in support of a wide range of Critical Incidents and specialist taskings.
You will attend emergency calls, road traffic collisions (including those which have resulted in fatalities), assisting motorists, undertaking vehicle checks and participating in specialist operations, in order to improve road safety and deny criminals the use of the roads.
The ideal applicant will be an excellent decision maker and communicator, who will perform to the best of their abilities within this specialism and beyond. You will be required to;
- Patrol the roads to provide visible policing to the public
• Reducing road casualties through appropriate use of enforcement and education to reduce traffic collisions
• Disrupting criminality by denying criminals the use of the roads
• Combatting anti-social road use by providing specialist response to identified local community concerns.
• Adopt the role of Scene Manager at serious road traffic collisions ensuring the appropriate deployment of resources and coordinating the response.
• Adhere to PACE, Health and Safety, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities and all other relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice pertaining to the role.
An excellent understanding of relevant legislation, national guidance and good practice in Roads Policing will be a key element to your successful performance in the role.
You will be responsible for supporting your own continuous professional development, ensuring key RPU skills are developed and maintained.
The application process may involve a Training Needs Analysis carried out by the Force Driver Training Unit.
The location of the role (Northern / Southern) is open to negotiation prior to posting but vacancies are anticipated at both bases.
To apply for this role you will require the following Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Confirmed in the rank of Constable within another Home Office police force
- You should have completed a Roads Policing Skills course.
- A strong background / experience in delivering frontline Policing.
- Be willing to undertake future training actives, development and qualifications that are in keeping with the role.
- Experience of multi-agency working.
- It is preferred that you are a qualified Police Advanced Driver, however, if not already trained, you must be prepared to attend and pass a 4-week advanced driving course.
The Teams work a 10 week shift pattern (2/2/2), which largely reflects the shift pattern / structure of the Local Patrol Teams. Whilst Flexible Working Patterns can be accommodated, these will need to take into account the demands placed upon the TST.
