We are now recruiting for a Mobile Device Examiner in our South West Forensics collaboration. This is a key role within the department supporting, enhancing and creating new avenues of investigation for Officers and helping to bring offenders to justice.

In this role you will be part of a fast paced team dealing with the interrogation of a wide range of mobile devices in order to obtain the best evidence possible for a wide variety of criminal cases. On a typical day you will be extracting and analysing mobile devices and liaising with a broad range of Police officers, staff and outside organisations.

 

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:

  • To provide South West Regional Forces with an evidential Data Investigation capability.
  • To work collaboratively to the required international standards and Forensics Code of Practice.
  • Utilising a broad range of complex and technical equipment forensically examine digital devices including mobile telephones, memory cards, GPS devices and other submissions as appropriate. The majority of the examinations will be undertaken at the request of the Investigating Officer to provide intelligence and evidence to prosecute offenders.
  • Maintain the integrity and continuity of evidence with subsequent presentation at judicial proceedings.

 

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • You should be educated to a degree level in information and communication technology/computer sciences or equivalent experience in technical fields such as telecommunications, electronics or digital media.
  • You should have proven experience in the field and possession of a good up to date knowledge of mobile communication devices, networks and operating systems including; Android, iOS
    and Microsoft.
  • You must have knowledge of legislation in relation to Hi-Tech Crime including RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act), Computer Misuse Act, Criminal Justice Act, Data Protection Act and ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) Guidelines for Computer Based Evidence.
  • You are able to work with graphic and traumatic images and information on a regular basis without undue distress and work within a highly confidential environment.
  • You have knowledge of forensic data recovery methods and software and experience of ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identification Number), IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) and phone architecture.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.

This role will require you to travel to alternative locations on an ad hoc basis to undertake the role; travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with force policy.
